I planted a squash plant that went mad last year in terms of leaves spreading out and growing all over the place, but the veg were small and didn't really develop properly. Any tips… should I have pruned the leaves to help fewer veg grow bigger?

Squash must be grown in a sunny spot sheltered from the wind. A well manured plot with the large stones removed, they must be well watered and a liquid fertilizer given every 2 weeks. Check the vines that the fruit grow on for sideshoots and remove them as they appear, allowing the fruits to feed off the main vine. When the fruits are visable you can remove the leaves or they will take the feed and water that is needed for good size fruits. Hope this helps.
